We got approved for an FHA loan with a 3.5% down payment with our credit union. This wasn't so bad but the main problem we had with the FHA loan is the payment was so high because of the mortgage insurance they added to the loan. We started looking for other options and found out that our area was eligible for USDA so we applied for a USDA loan with a lender and they got us approved with zero down and we closed in December.(We are planning Christmas dinner in our new home!) In the end we got a cheaper house payment and we were able to keep our down payment money to use for new furniture.
